Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition characterised by the darkening of certain areas due to an excess production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour. Hyperpigmentation can appear as brown, black, grey, red or pink spots or patches. The spots are sometimes called age spots, sun spots or liver spots.

Excess sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation, UV rays stimulate melanin production, leading to sunspots.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can develop after wounds, acne, or injuries have healed on the skin. Scars or wounds may darken during the healing process.

Hormonal changes can contribute towards hyperpigmentation. It is particularly common among women and is thought to occur when oestrogen and progesterone stimulate the overproduction of melanin.

Salicylic Acid helps to clear clogged pores, gently exfoliate and prevent breakouts. Kojic acid to reduce post-blemish pigmentation and gentle forms of Vitamin C to calm inflammation.
